The background behind Super Mario Bros. 2 is complicated, but the Story shows why it's a bit different than any other game. Originally known as "Doki Doki Panic" in Japan, and transferred into a Mario game for North American release, Mario & Co. were in a new world different than the Mushroom Kingdom, known as Subcon. Against new enemies, the Final goal was to defeat Wart.
